Stephanie Burset is the Executive Director of Sportsometry. Stephanie grew up in Bernardsville, New Jersey and graduated from Princeton University in 2009 with an A.B. in history. Her senior thesis was entitled ‘The State has Nothing to Fear from Emancipation’: How Charleston’s Free People of Color Survived the Denmark Vesey Conspiracy. Stephanie was the executive director of Princeton Model Congress, and she also played on Princeton’s club field hockey and softball teams.
Stephanie developed an interest in urban education during her summer internships in college. In 2007, she interned at the Wight Foundation in Newark, New Jersey. The Wight Foundation’s mission is to provide scholarships for Newark-area students to attend boarding schools. During the summer of 2008, Stephanie interned at HomeFront, Inc., a Ewing, New Jersey-based nonprofit addressing homelessness in Central New Jersey through education and work training. At HomeFront, she instituted a field hockey program for its summer camp. Stephanie worked as a recruiter for Teach For America during her senior year of college and joined Teach For America full-time after graduation. She taught American history for two years at Achievement First Bridgeport Academy in Bridgeport, Connecticut.
Stephanie came to Sportsometry because she found the mission of the organization incredibly compelling. Being able to pair athletics with academics was something that was always important to her, and Stephanie is excited to bring her perspective and experiences from Teach For America to Sportsometry.
